Fukuoka Day Trip by Private Car Details

Plan the route around your group, timing, preferred stops, and vehicle.

Fukuoka's day-trip stops sit in three different directions from the centre: Dazaifu to the southeast, Nanzoin to the east, and the Itoshima coast to the west. By train each of those means returning to Hakata or Tenjin first, so a large part of the day goes into backtracking. A private car links them in one loop and can arrive at Dazaifu before or after the mid-morning peak, then finish in the city in time for the yatai stalls, which only open in the evening.

Route character

Three directions in one loop

Dazaifu, Nanzoin, and the Itoshima coast lie on separate rail lines and are usually combined by road instead.

Timing watch

Dazaifu peaks mid-morning

The approach street is busiest late morning, and the plum blossom and exam-prayer seasons add both visitors and traffic.

Access note

Narrow coastal lanes

Roads along Itoshima are narrow in places with limited parking, so stops there are set down at the nearest workable point.

Before You Book

  • Decide whether the day leans coastal or temple-focused, since Itoshima and the Dazaifu–Nanzoin side sit on opposite sides of the city.
  • Tell us if you want to end at the yatai stalls, as they open in the evening and the rest of the order is built backwards from that.
  • Itoshima cafes keep their own hours and some close early, so let us know any specific one you have in mind.
